If you want to make sustainable culture shifts and need a little nudge in the right direction, I will help you achieve them, one drop at a time.
Anti-Racism
I’ve experienced both privilege and oppression, so I proudly advocate for intersectional practice, recognising that our identities are shaped by a multitude of factors that intersect to create unique experiences. Whether you’re looking to de-colonise your approaches or explore how you can better address systemic racial inequity, I will guide you through a comprehensive evaluation of how you and your team address inequity through multiple lenses.
Together, we will delve into the complexities of privilege, power dynamics, and historical contexts that inform our understanding of justice. By engaging with these critical discussions, we can identify actionable strategies that promote inclusivity and equity, ensuring that the space you inhabit improves not just for yourself, but for all individuals, fostering a community where diverse voices are heard, valued, and empowered to thrive.
I have worked with schools and teams on their anti-racist journeys as a lead coach for the Centre for Race and Education at Leeds Beckett University, where I facilitated workshops and training sessions aimed at fostering critical conversations about race and equity.
Additionally, in my role as Education Lead for Anti Racist Cumbria, I collaborated with schools to engage in meaningful discussions about racism and its impact on our communities.
As a member of Indus Legacy, I support community education through the historical and contemporary narratives of South Asians, aiming to highlight the rich cultural contributions of this community while addressing the challenges they face in today’s society.
By weaving together these experiences, I continually strive to create inclusive environments that promote understanding, respect, and social justice for all.
Neurodivergence
I’m a late-diagnosed AuDHDistic – Autistic with an ADHD profile, which has given me a unique perspective on the intricacies of neurodiversity. My four children are all ‘Neurospicy,’ each displaying their own remarkable blend of strengths and challenges, making our household a colorful tapestry of experiences and insights.
This journey has fuelled my passion in advocating for understanding and acceptance for neurodivergent individuals. I believe it is crucial that anyone within your organisation, as well as those who come into it, are not only recognised for their unique qualities but also embraced in an environment where they feel safe, validated, and empowered to thrive.
By fostering such an inclusive atmosphere, we can unlock the potential of every individual and create a community that values diversity in all its forms.
I have led inclusion in schools for 25 years, and currently research and teach about inclusive practice at Leeds Beckett University. I’ve supported families to navigate the SEND system and worked with schools to improve their inclusive practice through whole school approaches. My areas of expertise are primarily within the Autistic and ADHD fields. I regularly work with the National Autistic Society evaluating policy and research, chairing and delivering at conferences and contributing to online material.
Leadership
Having led a small school, I recognise the critical need for leadership support. It’s challenging to determine the next effective step while managing numerous responsibilities. Daily challenges can cloud judgment, hindering task prioritisation and future strategising. Someone looking in can reveal overlooked opportunities or solutions. This support clarifies the path ahead and underscores that collaboration and guidance are vital in effective leadership in education.
I’ve worked with academy trusts and independent schools to support and improve governance, serving as an executive Chair and trustee/director.
Whether you are new to leadership or preparing for an inspection, let me be that critical friend who whispers in your ear. The journey of leadership is exciting yet challenging, filled with opportunities for growth. Together, we can turn obstacles into stepping stones while fostering an environment for innovative ideas. With my guidance, you will gain clarity on your objectives and build a cohesive team inspired to bring your vision to life, ensuring every challenge is met with resilience.
